Monthly Archives: May 2011

So it’s been a big quiet on the blogging front recently but I have had so much work on. Today is the hand in for the personal development planning journal from Year 2. The journal contains my thoughts and reflections on the series of lecture notes that I have made throughout the year as well as studio based graphic responses from the Monday sessions. Here are a selection of the best tasks and pages from my PDP journal.

Feminism double page spread. Using the notes we had taken in the lecture we were asked to design a response to fit on a badge, here is the response I came up with.

Art and design is everywhere, you don’t just switch off to it when you want. There is always something out there to catch your eye, good job I had a camera when I found these elephants at Oxford Cirus, London.

Questioning Authorship. As a designer we always design for somebody else, this means we lose authorship of what we create. The fanzine task was to demonstrate how authorship works in a colaboration.

Gender in Art and Design. We were tasked to use mens magazines to create a visual response to the gender. As a group we came up with the idea to create the “Perfect GQ Man” using GQ magazine. Our response was much more refined than that of the lads, so I think that one can stay un-posted!!! Overall these studio tasks have helped to relate the “fine art” lectures to graphic design, and helped to create some interesting pieces of work.
