“The artwork ‘Cosmopolitan’ is a new work especially created for an exhibition. Subject of the work are buildings of New York. The work consists out of four sides: two white and two black sides. The four sides are connected to each other by means of integrated tabs and slots. When these tabs/slots are loosened the work can be folded into a two-dimensional surface.”

“I believe that one of the main reasons I enjoy the paper craft, is due to my love of the material: paper. Although I’ve always had a special fascination for paper, it has taken me a while to find my own way of working with it; and then it took a little longer to find out that the technique I have been using so intensively is called quilling – it involves the use of strips of paper that can be rolled, shaped, and glued to the background.”

“This project depicts the story of ‘Into the Woods’ by Stephen Sondheim in pop-up form. The story weaves darker meaning through well-known fairy tales. The two scenes that I chose to depict were the house of the evil witch and the tower where Rapunzel was held prisoner.

With this project, I became particularly familiar with 3D illustration techniques and intricate paper cutting. It was very much about developing an understanding of the technical skills and precision needed to execute a pop-up book. While it was particularly challenging, it was also incredibly rewarding.”

“We’ve created a papercraft instrument (with tunable tuning heads) surrounded by paper quilling and spiral music notes.

The stringed instrument symbolizes the symphony while the quilling represents the many sounds of a symphony, which is reinforced visually by the surrounding music notes. Motion and passion were the two biggest themes we focused on. After being photographed, the imagery was used on brochures, posters, bookmarks, and program covers. The papercraft itself has since been shadowboxed, and travels around with the symphony during the concert series.”

“In September 2008, Fedrigoni UK opened the doors to its London Showroom, a place to showcase its fine and speciality papers. The purpose was to have a space that would bring the paper company closer to the design community and offer a same-day sample service. Each month Fedrigoni UK holds various events in the showroom aimed at designers, from talks and exhibitions to games nights and awards. The showroom is also open for designers to use as a meeting space with their clients, exhibition space, sample library or private event space.

For this project, the challenge was to encourage more designers to visit and use the Fedrigoni London Showroom. In response, Fedrigoni paper, photography and digital manipulation were used extensively to create a set of posters. These designs emphasise the creative possibilities of paper, and communicate the spacial freedom provided by the London Showroom.”

“Paper ABC series explores various three-dimensional paper techniques and its relationship with the English alphabet. Each texture is appropriately applied, based upon the characteristics of each letterform and texture. For example, a texture which lends itself to a curvilinear form is handcrafted for a letter with a rounded shape. In this way, a dialogue is created between what makes up the form and the form itself.”
