“I believe that one of the main reasons I enjoy the paper craft, is due to my love of the material: paper. Although I’ve always had a special fascination for paper, it has taken me a while to find my own way of working with it; and then it took a little longer to find out that the technique I have been using so intensively is called quilling – it involves the use of strips of paper that can be rolled, shaped, and glued to the background.”

“Outside, the city has ceased to exist. From this point on, I will be able only to evoke it from my memories, to see it in these few photos I managed to bring with me. When my own memory eventually abandons me, this collection of yellowing newspaper cuttings, crumpled snapshots and torn out pictures will continue to remind me of how the city was before everything changed. From this dusky non-space with no night or day, I shall attempt to constantly reconstruct my city out of ever less clearly defined memories.”

“I decided to create my own Lomo LCA exhibition/celebration of the camera. I created a magazine that can that documents my time in New York including places I visited – such as Coney Island and some of the events that took place whilst I was there. I designed the magazine with the intention of creating other variations based in different locations around the world I also have visited, with Stockholm, Barcelona and London coming soon.”

I absolutely love the work of Rob Ryan, so much so I even have one of the cards he designed for Roger La Borde. His paper cutting work is so intricate and delicate and there is always a high quality finish to it. His work has been my main inspiration for this semester’s project.

“Natrop’s work features installations of fibrious paper cut outs that immediatly give the feeling of soft fabrics and spiderwebs. Not of all his work consists of these paper cut out installations.  His work encompasses a multitude of forms and the paper cutouts can easily become static, wall-mounted pieces of art.

This is the idea I had for my book cover design, creating cut out pieces of design and then hanging them, lighting the pieces and casting a shadow against the wall to create a shadow. I would then photograph the pieces to create my cover desgin. This piece of work is the perfect example of showing what my intentions are.
